Principles of Engineering

Scope: Guide to materials available in the PHS library and through subscription databases.

Use the Library Catalog to locate print resources in the PHS Library.

Electronic Resources:

Subscription Databases: See library staff for user names and passwords.

Gale Power Search: Users can use basic or advanced search functions. Select “Browse Publications” for a complete listing of journals about engineering.

Proquest: Select “Publications”, and then click on the journal you would like to search. You may also limit searches to full-text and/or peer reviewed.

Free Web Sites:

Bureau of Labor Statistics: Check out the occupational information by looking in the directory on the left hand side of the screen. Occupational information includes industry outlook, wages by area and occupation, and employment projections.

Discover Engineering: This site, sponsored by a variety of major corporations, introduces the public to the wide variety of engineering careers. Video activities, games, and trivia are included.

Engineering Central: Job hunting website will allow users to see what companies are looking for in a candidate, and salary ranges associated with various jobs.

US NEWS & World Report: Listing of top engineering graduate schools and overviews of admissions, academics, ranking, and student body. Scroll over school name and select to find out details.

Other Resources:

APA: American Psychological Association style guide. Look in the “Most Popular” section for information on how to create a paper using APA style.

Garr Reynolds: Build a better presentation by following the advice on this website. Includes presentation tips, as well as tips on delivery and creating excellent slides that get your point across in style.

Son of Citation Machine: David Warlick’s excellent citation maker for APA style. Please pay attention to formatting instructions after citations are created.

Study Guides and Strategies: This site is the brainchild of Joseph Landsberger, and contains excellent resources about learning and studying.
